Sedona 2021 Pool Opening Status (Updated Mon 5/24 4:40 PM)

Updates added to the bottom of the post

From John Walker, Director, Sedona HOA

Hello Sedona Townhome residents,

This weekend was intended to be the opening of our pool but, unfortunately, the gate is broken and needs a system replacement which can't be made until next week.

Furthermore, we were unable to get a special meeting of the board today (May 21) to approve a course of action.

However, after more than a year of quarantine, I view this pool opening as a critical mental health need for our community. Therefore, as a homeowner with a working fob, I am improvising a solution:

Your key fob won't work but the fobs of the board members do (to allow us access year round). Thus, I can still get in the pool area. I will be able to get into the pool area and let residents in for some hours. You can be my "guest" (I will challenge you for some proof you are a resident).

Candidly though, I haven't yet figured out how I will juggle everything on my plate to do this. This is just about the worst weekend on my calendar for this to happen. I care for multiple disabled kids, many who can't be left alone at home, but I can't keep them with me out at the pool all day because one is medically fragile and can't be out in the heat for long (she can't regulate her own body temperature). My wife is out of town so I have to do all this myself and I'm not sure how I will be able to be at the pool, take care of them, and do everything else on my backlog this weekend.  Despite this, I will find a way to get you some hours at the pool.

I will provide regular updates at this blog this weekend on how this will work (once I figure it out). I expect to have the first update before 8:00 AM Saturday morning.

Update Sat 5/22 7:10 AM:

I will be at the pool gate for a few minutes at the top of the hour every 2 hours.  I will only allow in those that:

  • provide their name
  • identify their address
  • if a lessee, correctly identify the lessor
  • show me their key fob that I will take a picture of (no exceptions, even for my besties)

I’ll be there at:

  • 10:00 AM
  • Noon
  • 2:00 PM
  • 4:00 PM
  • 6:00 PM
I will only stay 5-10 minutes and won’t wait around for any stragglers. Each trip will take me 30 minutes as it is (getting disabled kids, particularly one that is medically fragile and wheelchair bound, in and out of vehicles takes a lot of time).

I will update this blog throughout the weekend with more information

Update Sun 5/23 8:10 AM:

Since it may take several days until the gate system is upgraded to work for everyone, I will also be at the pool at 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM weekdays, but only for 5-10 minutes.  Please be on time if you want access to the pool.  The current weekday pool hours are only 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

Update Mon 5/24 4:40 PM:

Given the late dismissal of Rea Farms, I will also be at the pool at 5:00 PM on weekdays.
